Vitalie Rotaru
My name is Vitalie Rotaru and I am 23 years of age. I was born in the Republic of Moldavia into an Orthodox family and I have three sisters. I was educated according to my parents' wishes and the result of this was that I became rebellious. I was drinking and got into fights. When I was 15 years old one of my cousins told me about the gospel. I had never read the Bible but when he told me to read the Bible, I started to read the Bible seriously from cover to cover.
As I read the Bible I was touched by God because my cousin's life translated the Bible for me. In 2000 I became a Christian. I told God I don't want to be rebellious any more and I don't want to continue drinking or to beat up other boys. I used to stay out all night and not go home until the early hours of the morning. I told God that I wanted to be like my cousin, Mihai. From that moment God started to change my life. My relatives and especially my parents were very glad to see how my life changed, especially my mother because of my behavior many times I had made her cry.
One day the evidence of my changed life became very obvious to my parents when they asked me to do things which were contrary to the Bible and I refused. My father asked me to buy wine, cigarettes and even steal (we were very poor). Because I would not do what my father wanted he started to persecute me. One day he came home in the middle of the night in the winter and he woke me up and asked me if I was an evangelical Christi an. At first, I was afraid to say yes but finally I said yes I am a Christian. He beat me, cursed me and put me out of the house just in my night clothes. Such things happened many times, but after every event God solved my problem, encouraged and strengthened me. I continued to live with my parents because I was 16-17 years of age and I didn't have anywhere else to go.
When I was 18 years old God called me to the ministry. When I told my father that I will leave home to go train for God's ministry, he was very angry.
Finally he said I could go but that he would disown me and did not want to know me any more as his child.
Sometime later I returned home to visit my parents and my relationship with them was repaired. When I was 20 years old I realized that I need to be prepared for God's work. I asked God to show me a Bible School where I could go and I heard about EEBC in Oradea. When I told my father that I will go to the Bible School in Oradea he took the last money from home and gave it to me. For me, this was an amazing thing because I knew how he had been, but God started to change my father and my family. Even until today my parents have supported me to be at EEBC. God also started to change one of my sisters and in 2006 she repented and became a Christian. This was a result of my prayers. From the moment when I became a Christian I prayed almost every day for my family and I see how God is working in my family. I will graduate from EEBC in June 2007 and return to the Republic of Moldavia and my cousin who led me to the Lord and I will work together in Evangelism.
